Throughout the year we keep and update our Pilot of the Year VPA Ranking system, and at the end of the year the winning pilot is formally recognised and rewarded! How Does it Work The VPA ranking has been designed to reward both competition attendance and exceptional performances throughout the VPA season. The system does this by rewarding place getters with a fixed point system and also a bonus point system that rewards individual performances. The ranking provides pilots from any class equal opportunity to succeed. Place Points The point system is constant across all classes. Podium finishers receive increased points based on final position. All other competing pilots, irrespective of score or place, receive 2 points towards their season tally. See table below. Bonus Points Bonus points are awarded to pilots based on the average of their counting scores throughout an event. For example in a 6 round event the 5 raw scores that a pilot carries towards his event total will be averaged. This figure will then be shown as a percentage of the current APA national average and correlated to the bonus point’s table below.
Classification At the end of the season each pilot will be classified under their individual competition class and a consolidated VPA ranking. To be officially classified a pilot must compete in a minimum of 3 sanctioned VPA events. Pilots who compete in more the 7 events throughout the year will be classified on their 7 highest competition results. Pilots who compete in 2 or more classes throughout the year will have their scores combined for the consolidated ranking. Should the same pilot accumulate enough points and compete in more than 3 events in each class they will be classified in both classes and the consolidated ranking. In the event of a tied point’s decision in either the consolidated or class classification a count back will be conducted. The pilot who has competed at the most events throughout the VPA season will be classified higher. |
