Over the weekend of October 1 and 2 the APA Championships were held in Albury. The weather forecast wasn't great, and that led to a few casualties on the attendance list - with about 20 finally competing, and a reduction to one flight line.
Congratulations to the winners: James Nugent (F3A), Norm Parker (Expert), Russell Edwards (Advanced) and Wally Grembecki (Sportsman). Full results can be found HERE
Here are some of the highlights and photos from a great weekend:
- As well as the many from around Victoria who made it to Albury it was also great to see John Payne and David Carkeek dowm from Queensland, and Richard Hirst and Gavin Dark from NSW.
- Saturday was wet but not very windy! We still got in 2 rounds of all levels - Sportsman, Advanced and Expert first, and then F3A. And around that we used the wet times in the shed for an entertaining and enlightening briefing from David and James Nugent on their experiences at the World Championships in Muncie, and for the VPA Annual General Meeting.
- Great dinner on the Saturday night at one of the local pubs that almost all were able to attend.
- Sunday was dry but windy - pretty much a straight blow in. We flew two more rounds of all levels.
- For extra entertainment Henry showed off his latest acquisition - a Hacker C50 with rather different approach to gearbox. Take a look at the photos! Much envy.
And if anyone got bored with F3A, the control line circle was home to Speed on Saturday, and Team Racing on Sunday!
Thank you to the Twin Cities locals for their excellent catering!
