A few notes from the weekend (as described by Fernando):

1. Bev lost her glasses. She asked me to please help her find them. After some very rigorous searching with the help of hubby Henry we couldn’t find the glasses anywhere. I asked Bev what the glasses looked like and she pointed at a pair that was hanging around her neck. She explained that they were identical to those but with clear lenses. After a few more minutes of searching I turned around to Bev and said, “There they are!”

She asked. “Where?”

To which I responded, “Henry is wearing them!!”

2. Dave Carkeek must have felt that he was running out of time. As he came over the first half of his Cuban 8 he finished his 4 of 8 point roll and pulled! Performing what will soon be known as a “cubanito” (little Cuban). His caller was dumb-founded and got lost on his call card, not knowing what to do or what was next. Dave, in his utter calm nature, proceeded to perform the half square loop with a half roll without even blinking followed by an immaculate snap roll on 45 degrees. An awesome display of cold blooded flying!

3. Peter Newman, showing off his newly found power in his electric power plant, came up to his next turnaround manoeuvre. He performed an impressive humpty bump, to which his caller turned around and asked, “What part of Immelman don’t you understand?”

4. After a few minutes discussing with Brian Green about what is appealing in a magazine article, Glenn Orchard turned around and asked him, “So do you think that the type of articles that Richo writes about Scale Aerobatics are appropriate for the magazine?”

Brian replied, “How should I know? I don’t even read the magazine! Steve does it all.”

5. A rude awakening over the weekend was the fact that while collecting the fees for the competition I had at least 6 people ask for a pensioner’s discount!!

6. Norm Morrish finished his third flight of the day and upon landing was greeted by the judges praising him for his flight. One of the judges said, “Norm, that was a pretty good flight.”

Norm replied, “I thought that was a f…ing great flight!”

7. Rob Clarke flew his very sexy SebArt “Misswind” in the Expert class. These were only the initial flights for the model so Rob was a bit nervous. On his last flight he was struggling to get the very light aeroplane to slow down for landing.

What was really amusing to see was his caller giving him tips on how to land the biplane. His caller was young James Nugent (10 year’s old!) who stood behind Rob telling when to cut the power, to level his wings, to flare, etc. How times change!!!

8. Take a look at the photos. The club did a marvellous job in procuring the appropriate size Diet Cokes for Fernando. A stubby for a stubby!

9. Brian Green and Dot were working as a team over the weekend. Brian had Dot calling for him. On one of his flights, Brian suddenly went out of sequence, circled around and landed after having done two or three manoeuvres at the wrong time.

Once he had landed, he handed over the transmitter to Dot and walked off to pick up his aeroplane. We asked Dot, “What happened?”

She very calmly answered, “He doesn’t listen!”

10. Paul Dart was at the field very proudly flying his first pattern model which was built by Doug Schmedje (Gary’s dad). We hope for a very quick recovery for Doug.
