SWAMPS – P&DARCS: A Successful Double Dip! |
Well Saturday and Sunday saw us flying two separate competitions over the weekend. On Saturday we went to SWAMPS for what was a very exciting one-day competition with some very high quality flying showed off by most of the contestants. On Sunday, we gathered at P&DARCS for another competition that proved to be a bit more challenging.
>We have been trying to get this format tested as it has been suggested by the pilots from farther regions that this would make it worth their while to travel to Melbourne for the competitions. Well it worked a treat! Although we did not get the pilots from the nether regions… :-(

APA Championships 2011 - Albury |
Over the weekend of October 1 and 2 the APA Championships were held in Albury. The weather forecast wasn't great, and that led to a few casualties on the attendance list - with about 20 finally competing, and a reduction to one flight line.
Congratulations to the winners: James Nugent (F3A), Norm Parker (Expert), Russell Edwards (Advanced) and Wally Grembecki (Sportsman). Full results can be found HERE
Here are some of the highlights and photos from a great weekend:

Sports Aerobatics - Greensborough |
On Saturday Oct 15, 2011 the Greensborough Model Aircraft Club (GMAC) held a Sports Aerobatic competition -- and one of the best we have seen in a while. It was a very tightly fought competiton in conditions that ranged from almost perfect to almost unflyable (that had a lot to do with the wind not being able to make up its mind on direction or speed)! Congratulations to the well deserving winners:
- 1st place: (Young) Tobi Azeez
- 2nd place: Will Matthyson
- 3rd place: Chris Anderson
And a big big vote of thanks to Russell Edwards of GMAC for his excellent organisation (and flight training - which was very evident), Fernando for organising the scoring and judging, and Dennis and David for judging. Full results can be found HERE

How good was it to be back at the SWAMPS field with such brilliant weather?
We had not been back in a while mostly due to the rain. Fortunately, this year the water eased up a bit and it allowed the place to dry enough for us to have a wonderful one-day competition at the field. In Bobby Hurst’s own words, “Look! Dust! We haven’t had dust here for over two years!”
